How we got started

Many people are put off First Aid Training, thinking it might be boring or scary. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! Participants leave my training not only feeling confident with their certificate but also having had loads of fun. Where We Tread is proud to have delivered and qualified over 100 people in 2021 in Outdoor first aid and emergency first aid at work, as well as guiding hikes around Northumberland, the lakes and Scotland. I can’t wait to explore further afield again and have some excellent plans for you to get involved with. I welcome more people to join me for training and exploring this year and beyond.

What we care about

1. Making first aid training fun:

We learn when we are engaged and enjoying ourselves! Any training you embark on with me will be really active, 90% of the time will be spent outdoors on an outdoor course and there won't be a slideshow in sight. We will learn through doing, with lots of scenarios and time spent rolling around the woods. If you are booking a first aid at work course I’ll find out about your workplace and who's on the course so I can make it all relevant and entertaining through carefully thought out scenarios.

2. Making the outdoors accessible:

Everyone should get to feel confident and free to experience the great outdoors. Almost every adventure plan is adaptable through careful planning and preparation. Please get in touch if you have any additional support needs to be able to take part in any of my courses or adventures. I I love helping to build confidence in the outdoors. If someone feels competent and confident outdoors this can reflect onto other areas of life too - it's truly transformative knowing how to navigate in 0 visibility or save someone's life!

3. Exploring safely and sustainably:
Safety is our top priority alongside treading and training in a sustainable way. I love teaching people about how wonderful nature is. Through spending time outdoors we see how important it is to protect our environment.  We always follow leave no trace principles on outdoor adventures.

Hi, I’m Susan, your mountain leader & first aid trainer!

Map reading doesn't come naturally to me, it's something I've had to work hard at. I've found many people over complicate it, making it seem inaccessible and difficult. It really doesn't need to be. I promise I can get you navigating - if I can learn to read a map then anyone can! I love giving people the tools to explore and adventure independently and safely.

With me as your mountain guide there’s no reluctantly panting up a hill after a super fast super fit fell running man. We take it at a sensible pace, enjoy the journey, views and company along the way. Much like my First Aid Training, where although the topic is serious, we learn in a fun and engaging way to support you to develop confidence and new skills. I would love to have new faces join me. Check out the reviews below from past participants to see how much people get out of my courses!

Testimonials

“Fantastic day learning new map reading skills and rediscovering skills long forgotten.  Wonderful relaxing way to spend a day, would recommend to anyone who wants to get out there and learn something a bit different that allows you to go on adventures that might feel out of reach.  Thank you”

“Just received my certificate for completing the Outdoor First Aid Training course with Susan, and I would absolutely recommend the course to anyone interested in learning first aid, not just for outdoors, but generally as well. I was really nervous about the course (very squeamish about first aid!) beforehand, but Susan was really friendly and by the end of the course, I was more relaxed and definitely felt more prepared!”

“We had such a fantastic day. It was lovely to be guided up a new route and not have to worry about getting lost. Susan built confidence and honed our skills on the lower slopes so we skipped over the ridges and took on chimney descents that we wouldn’t have done alone. I can’t recommend Where We Tread highly enough!”

Would you like to explore and learn with me?

I’d love to have you join!
